FISHING

AKOSOMBO - Fresh water

You will either go out in a covered boat (advisable if not used to the sun) that looks like the Africa Queen, or if you are brave enough you can take a canoe and be paddled out into the river by your own gillie.

The equipment is there ready to go. You will use a thirteen foot 3.5lb T.C rod with a Penn 116 reel. The line will be 80lb braid. This can be fished either static float, or moving drift float, using the reel as a centre pin or ledger with static bottom baits. The tackle may seem a bit heavy for most of the thirty species in this river, some being the size of a small roach, but it is possible to hook into a monster mud or cat fish weighing in at over 150lbs!

All the bait and chum will be provided for the day and there will be refreshments on the boat should the sun dehydrate you.

Akosombo is the first location and is approximately a two hour drive from Accra. This is the start of the African Experience, as you drive away from the airport through the built up modern city into the rural bush areas towards the Volta Dam.

Volta Dam

ADA - Salt water

All the equipment is provided and you will be using a seven foot Celtic roller tip rod. This is a tried and tested sturdy piece of equipment capable of handling all types of game fish from the 20lb yellow fin tuna, to the varieties up around the 150lb weight. The reel is a large 6/0 Penn with either 100 or 200lb braided line. The method of fishing on this occasion is trolling using various types and sizes of lures imported specially from USA.

This is a relaxing way of fishing giving you the chance to observe local life, take pictures, and appreciate Africa in its most simple and beautiful form.
